Del Webb was the mastermind behind the first master planned retirement community: Sun City, Arizona.
It seems likes years since…
Sun City launched on January 1, 1960, with five model homes a shopping center, recreation center and a golf course. 100,000 people showed up. The opening created so much fanfare Time magazine did a cover story on it. Sun City revolutionized the idea of retirement and how retirees could live.
Sun City was designed to be a self-contained community. Webb wanted residents to have everything they would need within the borders of the community. So there are shopping centers, restaurants, doctors, a hospital, a library and much more. And now there are seven recreation centers, eight golf courses, two bowling centers and more than 120 special interest clubs to keep retirees busy.
And I say it’s all right…
Well, maybe more that just alright. Del Webb has gone on to build Sun City West, Sun City Grand, Sun CityAnthem and Sun City Festival all in the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Oh, and just to set the record straight Sun City is in unincorporated Maricopa County. And yes it is legal to drive your golf cart on public streets but it must be registered with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Friendship, socializing, recreation, and fun are the main staples of living in Sun City, Arizona. The community has embraced this idea for over 55 years and has become multi-generational in a whole new way. Children and Grandchildren of the original homeowners are moving to Sun City and loving it!

CENTURY 21 Arizona Foothills began its real estate journey in 1988 as a small, non-branded boutique office with just four agents called Ahwatukee Foothills Realty. Over a year later, we joined the CENTURY 21 family and began growing our company. Currently, CENTURY 21 Arizona Foothills has seven strategically placed branch offices and three satellite offices to serve the entire Greater Phoenix area.
The real estate market is always changing and as a result, our agents regularly attend training sessions and events to further their knowledge and be sure that they are focusing on current conditions that affect today's buyers and sellers. Our goal is to make sure that we satisfy the special needs of all our clients and at the same time make the process and transactions go as smoothly as possible.
"Working with my Century 21 Arizona Foothills agent has been a true pleasure. I relocated to the Phoenix area and quickly determined that the Gilbert area was a great fit for my family after meeting with our agent. Our agent was able to explain the Arizona real estate market to us and help us narrow down our home search based on our criteria. We love our new home in Gilbert and would recommend Century 21 Arizona Foothills to anyone!"
